Why is marijuana legal in the Netherlands and not in the USA ?

Because they are more mature in the Netherland and realize that THC isn't as bad as once thought. We are starting to gain some grown up thinking and it will spread. Todays pot smokers are tomorrows law makers. A study just recently released showed that THC has some encouraging benefits for people with early on set of alszyhmers desease. It helps restore memory in those that might be loosing it. Medicinal pot will show us that humans can catch a buzz and not suffer long term affects except for jail terms, which are as arcaig as witch hunts. The Netherlands are not as industrial as we are here in America. Big industries do not want it to be made legal in any form. Lumber,textiles,drug companys, even the oil barrons. You can not patent or copy write a weed. Most if not all the medical uses for THC were brought to lite by the people that used it, not doctors or researchers. Nevada and Colorado will vote in November to make it legal for adults over 21 to have up to an ounce and be able to consume it without having their lives ruined because as adults they perfer a good buzz instead of a drunken stupper like most of our polititiions enjoy on our dime.
Hemp will give you cloths that would last longer then cotton, Hemp will give us pulp for paper without using poisons and destroying forrests. Hemp could give use fuel for our cars that would burn cleaner then corn or other synthetic fuels. A couple of tokes of good weed would help you sleep with no ill side affects. You would be able to throw away your valums and Ambiance.
and all the other man made unsafe addictive pills the drug industries have sold you on. Pot is not the scurge on our society as some would have you believe. Almost a million people a year are arrested for some form of marijauna miss use.most end up on probation after going thru the so called justice system. Paying laywer fees, testing fees and probation costs on a monthly bases. I know I was a POT POW. I think it is politicaly and morely wrong to make criminals out of our citizens just make a profit. Where is the real crime?. I think that time will show us that THC will benefit our society far more then alcahol. Because there are so many arrests yearly That tells us that many out there are using pot and are always afraid someone might find out. So if they see or witness a crime , they will not speak out for fear of being found out and be sent to jail just because they got involved. Most that smoke pot don't know that so is their nieghbor. They won't talk to each other just for that reason. Fear of being found out. So they just stay in their own little box. I truely believe that Nevada and Colorado will open our eyes.. Pot is not the killer weed we have all been led to believe. Pot will be the penicillen of the future. But this is just one mans opinoin. I would like to add that when I got out of VietNam I brought it back with me. My father was around 64 at that time and was sickly. Doctors didn't give him much hope. I turned him onto weed. He smoked and enjoyed it for ten years untill he died making love to my mother right after smoking a joint. Today my mother is 84 yrs old and still enjoys a toke now and then. Go out there and talk about it don't hide it. Lets find out from each other about this thing we call pot. You will be surprised of all the good things you will hear.Because today we know more then we did twenty years ago. Besides the two states I spoke of,there are 11 other states thinking about rethinking our stand on pot. Two people that are drunk and they bump into each other, you have a fight. Two peolple with a buzz bump into each other, they end up friends. Oh ya those two that were drunk, they were most likely Republicans.Imagine stoners on our highways, the end of road rage.

Because everything in the Netherlands is legal (not really but it seems like it). As far as maijuana is concerned in the US; studies have found that long term use has adverse effects on the brain, e.g. memory loss & an increase in aggressiveness. There are more findings but I can't remember them (and I don't smoke marijuana).
Since maijuana has never been legal here, they aren't removing what was once a privilege like alcohol was. And we all know that didn't work. I do think, though, that it should be made available medically - prescribed by a dr. However, I'm guessing congress is afraid of unscruplous dr's abuse by writing out prescriptions for people who do not fall under the approved categories.

well not only that, but each county has the ability to say if they want cafes in their area, so yes. Not all areas of the Netherlands has pot available freely.
