Are all black people from Africa? So if I call a black person from the UK, an African American, would it be right or make me a discriminatory bigot?

Jesse Jackson came up with that name for us thinking it would be more "politically correct" than "black." I have a problem with that because I have more than African heritage in my family.

I consider myself African American, and understand I'm considered Black here in America. Am I a Black person who was born from out of any of the 53 countries in the continent of Africa? No, I was not. Do I believe I have roots or ties to Africa? Yes, I do, through my ancestors, so should it matter that I consider myself African African and Black? No, to me, it shouldn't. I don't care to judge you for any reason at all. It's not about what anyone's called, but it's more about what a person answers to when they're called.

Your opinions of Black people, you're very much entitled to. Your prejudices are yours also very much entitled to you. Regardless, the reality, in my opinion, is that everyone has their own opinions, perceptions, and views of others and of themselves. I don't assume all people of any culture or group are the same. I deal with people as they are...each person is an individual.

Whatever you feel you are, I just hope and pray that you're glad to identify yourself as whatever you feel you need to, and if you can't feel right about being as you identify yourself, then I'd say something isn't right, and that maybe you needed to check that issue out, so that you may resolve it.

If you called a person of African heritage that was born in the UK, you would be wrong, but not a discriminatory bigot. Example; I am of Cuban ethnicity. I am dark complected, and have curly hair and dark eyes. I am not African American, because I was born Cuban, although I probably have African ancestors. Confusing, huh?

Because black folks decided a while back they wanted to be called African Americans, and everyone naturally complied, rather than force the issue, since most people probably don't know what's really right.

One one side is patriotism, saying we should all think of ourselves as Americans, while the other says, if we're all individuals and truly free we should be able to call ourselves whatever we want. I say you should stand up for who you are, not what color or heritage your ancestors happened to be, and if you stand for American values, then call yourself an American, but if you think black people in America are a separate culture who stand for some other values, then proceed to separate yourself and stand up for what you believe in. It should be about values and philosophy, not color. How about that?!

I am a rational thinking human being. How about you? Oh, you're a mystic with a morality of death. Well gtfo my country.

Not all dark skinned people are from Africa. The term African Americans is the current politically correct phrase to use.

The first black man/woman was in Africa. So, now, every time a white person sees a more coloured person than him/her, even if it`s an African American person, he/she calles him/her black. Watch out still not to call them ***** or any other "black-listed" words.

Another question is are all people from Africa black? No they aren't. My husband is from South Africa and is white. He lives in America and is technically African American. He is more African American than the majorioty of blacks. Labeling is stupid.

The term " African " referse to the Genetic origin. Typically used for identification. Of course, of that note, I would be a European American.....Interesting thought. Or maybe Celtic Armerican? I wonder why that didn't catch on? Well, I like it better than " Honky " Best wishes. :)

Stop & think. African-American is an American term. Therefore you would just be making a cultrural faux paux. A politically incorrect term if you are anywhere but in America.

Actually, ALL OF US originally came from Africa. Over thousands of years we moved across the planet, changing skin color, height, etc, etc, based on the environment we lived in.

BUT, to call someone who was BORN IN AMERICA - an AFRICAN AMERICAN is absurd. They are Americans, period!!
