My grandmother was an awful driver. Her idea of safety was 10 miles under the speed limit in any lane she wanted because she paid taxes on that road and should be able to use whichever lane she chose. She also used the acceleration lane onto the interstate as a stopping lane and would cause traffic jams. She believed that it required stopping to make sure it was safe to move on.
She recently passed away and only quit driving about a year ago. Thanks for giving me the space to reminisce about her!!!

I'm not sure if you could call what my dad does driving anymore...I think he spends more time on the shoulder or the opposing lane than where he's supposed to be. I promise you this. I was riding with him the other day and had to grab hold of the wheel because he just all of a sudden bent down to pick up a pad of paper on the floor. I would rather drive with him just to keep him safe!! My mom, on the other hand, drives 5 to 10 miles under the speed limit, and always has. She starts slowing down and turning on her blinker way too soon, and a car can be a tiny speck on the horizon, and she won't make a left hand turn. It makes me wonder how she managed when we lived in some of the big cities we have.

My mother is a better driver than me even though it takes her forever to merge into traffic. It's funny that just the other day I was trying to rationalize with my daughter why she lets me drive her anywheres....I asked her how many car accidents she's been in (2 or 3 if you count the tire falling off but that didn't result in a collision). Then I asked her who was driving those times (I was) and then I said "doesn't that tell you anything.....?"

I want to quit riding with both of them but I don't have my license yet... my dad can drive a little recklessly at times and my mom can drive a little slowly at times... :-)

My mother couldn't drive if her life depended on it. Its a pity. She fits the "female driver stereotype" perfectly...
