the Canister control valve is an emission device to help burn the fuel emissions coming from your fuel tank.It is regulated to turn on and off at certain times and driving conditions.
You can drive the vehicle with the code set with no harm done to your vehicle, BUT if the charcoal canister broke and lost the charcoal inside of the unit and caused the control valve failure because of charcoal saturation, you could potentially suck small charcoal particles into your engine.
Get it repaired as soon as possible the save your self from a higher repair bill and Foremost help keep our air clean by fixing your emission system failure.
BTW, Just because the code set for the canister control valve, doesn't mean the valve is bad, You could just have a simple problem like a loose gas cap.
