It really is complicated; I vote for the clip-on version, too.

When women tie it themselves, they do it in front, then kind of hitch it around to the back.

Let me try and give a brief explanation. Leave one end over your shoulder -- you will tie the thing together with this end. Wrap the obi around yourself two or three times. You should have about three or four feet (1 m.) left over. Fold this over one foot at a time until you have a small, foot long packet at your waist. Take the end hanging off your shoulder, bring it around the packet in the middle and over the top, then "knot" it by bringing it under itself. The rest of the end should look like half a bow, the packet also should look like a nice bow.

Adjust the packet so it is perpendicular to the floor, then hitch it around to the back (if necessary). You may need to practice this many times to get it right, but the skills will come. Good luck!

(My kids take Japanese dance; I usually have another lady do the obi, but I *can* tie it if I have to, and it's usually good enough to last two or three hours of kid wiggling.)

a million) You belt must in no way contact the ground (exceptions are made even as grappling, and doing physical activities equivalent to sit down-ups) two) Dont contact any person's belt until they deliver you permission three) Never wash a belt (no longer certain why you might wish to) four) An trainer must tie your belt after you're promoted (This is continually performed instantly after the merchandising) five) Kneel dealing with clear of others, the flag, and the entrence whilst you tie your belt 6) Belts must be tied so the edges are even, and the again does not "overlap." Meaning, if the again appears just like the snapshot within the hyperlink beneath while you're performed, you probably did it incorrect. 7) Turn clear of others while solving your gi eight) Only put on your belt and uniform on the dojo, while no longer in use it must be smartly folded nine) Failure to comply with those laws would effect within the removing of your rank (as one other person mentioned, this has in no way happend to any person, however nobody takes a threat =D) Its unhappy that such a lot of belt factories and McDojos exhibit little to no challenge over the best way scholars deal with there belts. This train of field may be very foremost to Tradition Styles, however is slowly disappearing
