Easy, quick and safe: Vitamin C. Start w/1000 mg and then after 4 hours try another 1000 mg, then if no results try again in another 4 hours.

BTW Regarding other answers: Do NOT take mineral oil as suggested. Cod Liver oil is OK but mineral oil is not good for humans.

Yep...Go for Triphala (3 fruits that removes imbalances from your body excess Vata, Pitta and Kapha). Even if you do not understand this now, believ me it is safe and natural. In fact, it is more than just a laxative!

Please visit the links below and you will know why I recommed this:

I would recommed you to take it with warm water as per your convinience daily, twice thirce or once a week depnding on your choice with warm water at night. After 15-20 minutes drink as much as hot water as you can drink/sip and you will see the effect. Also, you can do some breathing exercise if the motion is not there or easy.

And many more links...
Jai Gurudev!!!

For occasional use, keep Milk of Magnesia on hand. Or use a liquid magnesium supplement like Natural Calm, available at natural foods stores.

To clean the colon after an illness or after using pharmaceuticals, use Cleanse More by Renew Life, or a similar stimulant laxative containing Aloe, Rhubarb and/or Triphala, plus Slippery Elm & Marshmallow Root to soothe and prevent cramping.

Remember that laxatives should not be used routinely or the body WILL become dependent upon them. To prevent the need of them, drink your 8 glasses of water, eat lots of fiberous foods like whole grains, potatoes with the peel on, raw fruits, and get plenty of exercise. When cutting way back on greasy foods be sure to substitute healthy fats like flaxseed oil, coconut oil & olive oil & fatty foods like avocados & cold-water fish.

Prunes are very good, also Yogi Tea has a good laxative tea. Best for regularity is Metamucil (or Konasyl, which has no added sweetener). Too much of the ingredient in the tea can create dependency.

I have a very good natural capsule that causes your bowel to be cleansed. I got it from my local health food store, it is called Paragon. It will really work, with out stimulants, and it will also rid your body of parasites if you have them. It costs about 35.00 but it is worth it and you can take it every day. I saw on a program that you should have a bowel movement after every meal, at least 3 times a day to rid you body of toxins. It is not good to keep these toxins in your body, as they stagnate in your intestines.

I believe the best solution is to work with foods that are known for softening the stools. I find prune juice and raisins are great! Not too much prune juice or your'll be stuck on the throne for quite awhile.

Milk of magnesia, it's a non-stimulating laxative, very mild and it works: been around forever it seems.
