i took the carb off to check the reed valve and couldnt find one anywhere. i looked in the cylinder also and couldnt see anything like it. could that be my problem,????

Not all 2 strokes use reed valves, some have a disc valve and others use piston-port valving...

A lot of 2 stroke motors do not have reed valves. If you could get enough stuff off to see where the fuel enters the cylinder, all you would see is some tiny slots. When the piston passes these slots on the downstroke, it sucks fuel in the cylinder.

For a 2 cycle engine to run right, the piston comes down, builds slight air pressure below the piston and will push the fuel and air to the top of the cylinder. If the reed is missing, it won't build air pressure below the piston to do this. Your fuel/air mixture is not being pushed to the top

The problem is you are not familiar enough with this particular engine to be doing any troubleshooting.

Purchase a shop manual for the bike.

THEN start looking for possible problems.

Without the shop manual the only thing you'll accomplish is losing parts and creating a mess you won't be able to fix cheaply.

yes, they are required.

stop playing mechanic and get a real mechanic before you break somethin'......

its behind the intake manifold, u usually wont see them.
