The Elder Scrolls series is highly rated. If you've got a new system and decent graphics card then Oblivion (Elder Scrolls IV) is the one to try; If not, then I would wholeheartedly recommend Morrowind (Elder Scrolls III).
There is a massive amount of freedom in character creation - lots of side quests and loads of NPCs with a huge world to explore. Excellent graphics and addictive to play.
But if you want something simple to play and fun Simon the sorcerer is an old game but a classic.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion is considered the best game out right now by most RPG players, but it does require a good system.
Elder Scrolls Morrowind is an amazing game as well and will run on almost any system you're likely to be using.
Neverwinter Nights is an older game as well, so should run nicely, a fairly good game with a lot of net modules published for it in addition to the main game.

All those games suck.
Elder Scrolls Oblivion is the currently the best RPG for the PC that is out. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic came out a few days ago. It is a superior RPG but is plagued by tons of bugs and unplayable for many people. Luckily, I was one of the people that it worked well enough to play it. It is a fantastic game. It just has Q&A problems.

all the gamees they mentioned are actually good the only one that sucks is the dark messiah it has no good story line graphic, camera gameplay (must i go on ) glitches.
i would not reccomend oblivion though because u would need a really good graphics card or else it would become annoying.
i wouuld reccomend if u like massive online RPGs Guild wars. its practically free u onl have to pay for the game itself the new campaign just came out today and it is a hell of a lot better then world of warcraft because it has a storyline and more stuff
