The Incident (1967)
Late one night, two young toughs hold hostage the passengers in one car of a New York subway train.
classic...with a very suprising and recognizable cast.
===========================
Cry 'Havoc' (1943)
The Army nurses on Bataan need help badly, but when it arrives, it sure isn't what they expected. A motley crew. A great movie...

There are tons of hostage movies that will seize your attention and make you one yourself (except you’ll be a willing one, and you won’t get killed). Here are a few of my favourites (and some I haven’t seen).
1. SPEED- My all-time favorite. Keanu Reeves (yes, Neo, The One) stars as an LAPD SWAT officer who duels with a delightfully hammy Dennis Hopper as a mad bomber who plants a bomb on a city bus. In one of the simplest and yet most terrifying plot element in film history, the bomb will be armed once it hits fifty and the bus will then have to stay above that speed…or it will blow up. No prizes for guessing what happens for the rest of the movie. Sandra Bullocks plays a cute-as-a-button passenger who falls for Keanu’s character, and this film really goes over-the-top in its stunts and special effects. Trust me, once you’ve watched this film, you’ll never dare to take any form of public transport again!
2. THE NEGOTIATOR- It is an occupation few give thought to, but to whom everybody counts on when in a hostage situation. Samuel L. Jackson stars as a hotshot negotiator who’s the best in the business. But in a cruel twist of fate, ironies of ironies, he takes an office hostage himself in a desperate bid to prove his innocence to several crimes he did not commit. Kevin Spacey’s the negotiator called in to resolve the situation. This movie is particularly interesting in a ‘hunter becomes the hunted’, role-reversal kind-of-way. Plus, how do you negotiate with someone who knows all the rules?
3. DIE HARD- This seminal flick which practically everyone loves from the 80s pits Bruce Willis as officer John McClane against Jeremy Iron’s sneering German ringleader Hans Gruber. When a gang of armed terrorists seize control of the 40-story Nakatomi building, our intrepid barefoot hero has to take them down one by one to save his wife and the other hostages. This will involve tons of fistfights, shootouts, crawling through airducts and a spectacular leap from the roof as a bomb goes off, all the while taunting Hans with that ever-cool insult, “Yippee-ki-yay, motherf*cker!” You’ve gotta love it. Word's out that a fourth film is in the works, set for release in 2008.
4. AIR FORCE ONE- Harrison Ford is the President of the United States! You’ll root for this family man all the way as he gives the baddies who hijacked his plane the boot with that immortal line. “Get off my plane!” It’s a film that will warm your heart and make you proud to be an American (I’m not). And you’ll wish you could vote him for President, too!
5. THE ROCK- Puppy-dog eyes Nicolas Cage and grumpy silverhair Sean Connery team up to take down a disgruntled army general who has taken control of Alcatraz and hold San Francisco to ransom. There are a few hostages in the form of a tour group who ironically get imprisoned in the cells they were visiting. Car chases, fighter jets and explosions galore, this is one ride you won’t want to miss!
Yup, these are my top faves. Others you may want to check out (otherwise known as the Die-Hard clones) are:
Speed 2 (Warning: It sucked in comparison to its predecessor)
The Die Hard sequels
Steven Seagal’s Under Seige
Van Damme’s Sudden Death
Wesley Snipe’s Passenger 57
Half-Past Dead (which was a Rock rip-off)
Harrison Ford’s Firewall
Trapped
Red Eye
Cellular (based off Speed, except this time if Chris Evan’s phone runs flat or loses signal, Kim Basinger as the hostage dies)
The Taking of Pelham One-Two-Three (predicted Speed’s third and final act)
Mel Gibson's Ransom
Clive Owen’s Inside Man
Bruce Willis’ Hostage
Johnny Q
Have fun being held hostage by these flicks! I just know you’ll love ‘em!
