no, the other users are not using too much of the internet connection because we have played with 3 computers and there have been no problems. it is just this new computer i am using. for some reason it only has a problem with playing games online.

i have the video card it came with, ATI Radeon XPRESS 200, but when i play offline some of the games work good. i think the video card may be the problem though, not the internet.

Once you are in a network, you have to accept the "not so easy" parts also, as in every thing/relation/day.
Being part of a network means that you are connected to other computer, connection that passes thru a server or a switch. Also, i guess you are using the Internet thru that network.
My point : the other persons in the network use sharing programs (like DC++. oDC, Bit Commet, rmDC, lmDC etc) to download stuff (music, movies, programs etc) from the Internet from other persons across the world. So, my guess is that the other people in the network are using to much part of the Internet connection you are using.
Also, if you will be so nice to share to us your PC`s characteristics, i will tell you if it`s because of the internet connection (too slow) and other people in the network or because of your computer.
The PC is a very good one .... what video card do you have ? (my guess : nVidia GeForce FX5200 or better ?)

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

My bf's xbox games were lagging really bad last night and our internet connection was horrible. He unplugged the modem overnight and that seemed to fix the problem. Not sure if this will help with pc games.
