I'm a HUGE indie & foreign film fanatatic. I would recommend the following...
Lost in Translation (one of my favs)
The Virgin Suicdies (a good under the radar movie)
Run Lola Run (interesting)
Happy Time Hotel (funny Korean movie about a blind girl)
Igby Goes Down (an indie comedy)
Swimming Pool (takes place in France, but is wonderful)
Amelie (unique)
Garden State (GREAT movie)
The Station Agent (unique)
Good-bye Lenin! (a good German movie)
Broken Flowers (interesting..Bill Murray stars in it)
Buffalo '66 (very unique indie film, very good)
Ghost World (Terry Zwigoff did this, it's quirky)
Secretary (if you like BDSM genres..it's tasteful, not porno)
The Dreamers (VERY good, quite provacative)
