My spybot serach & destroy is finding the spyware but not deleting?

You mean it shows back up on another scan? You probably downloaded some software and didnt read the contract! Some adware cant be removed until you uninstall the application that gave it to you!

Is it REAL spy-ware that SS&D is finding? Does it show up RED??? If it's not deleting the RED ones then you need to unistall it and reinstall it and KEEP it UPDATED!

If it's GREEN then what that is are deleteable tracks and other parts of the OS. They keep showing back up because they ARE part of the OS. They are safe to delete but they do come back minus any previous info about your activities on that computer.

Contrary to what another poster said, I LIKE SS&D!!! It gives GREAT real-time protection to your computer's Registry with it's Tea Timer feature!

I also use Ad-Aware se Personal as a "back up" to SS&D to determine any false positives or very rarely items missed by SS&D. This has only happened a small handful of times during the YEARS I've used it...practically from when it first came out!

Also, you NEED a GOOD anti-virus. I can't see paying for something when I can get something just as good or BETTER for FREE! I use Avast! Anti-virus by Alwil. It looks in a LOT more places than other free AVs, gives GREAT real-time protection, and updates (practically) constantly!

MINDDOCTOR, below, has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. He OBVIOUSLY does NOT have SS&D *CONFIGURED* __PROPERLY__!!! THAT is WHY he's having the type of problems with it that he is. When it IS configured PROPERLY and kept updated, as ALL anti-malware should be, it does a GREAT job! Just because you have to pay for something, doesn't mean it's the best that can be had!

BTW: I've tried Kaspersperky's 15 in 1 and it came very near to crashing my computer. I also found out that it was laced with rootkits and phoned home all the time. The same with the CA eTrust Suite that I can get, if I so choose, from my ISP!!!...for free since it's through them.

Spybot Search & Destroy, is a very poor program that will give you more trouble then it is worth. (Free). Comes from an University in Germany where the owner resides. (Designed by students). On a noraml scan it will only find some cookies or their famours, "DOS". Sometimes the scan will freeze on you. (The owner is a personal friend an I would not even thing of using his program).

In my spare time I test every antispyware an antivirus program on my backup pc to see if they perform as claimed.

You would be quite shocked to know that the majority of free antispyware an antivirus programs are true state of the art technology that is light years ahead of the purchased programs that are rated 1-2-3-4-5.

Some one told you to download http://www.superantispyware.com This is an excellent antispyware program that is free. The problem is that if you are not running really state of the art antispyware you will not know that this program has embedded adware installed.

Please don't think that all free software has embedded spyware or trojans, because I know of software that is rated high an as embedded trojans in them. Even some wizard installers have embedded trojans.

Two free antispyware program that I know for sure that are free and free of embedded malware are as follows. (I use them in my own computers).

http://www.emsisoft.com Download their free version of A2Squared Malware. They will ask you for your email address so they can send you a free registration key. The purchase program has automatic updates an a background scanner. (This company is out of Austria).

http://www.ewido.net Another excellent free program that if you don't update will become free after thirty days. They will just remove the guard in the tray and you will have to update on a manual basis. (This company is out of Prague).

Both of these programs if you should be on dialup will protect you against rogue dialers. (I am on ADSL, but don't mind the added protection).

Here is one more that is clean and has been around way before anybody in the computer field ever thought of antispyware.

Remove Spyboat Search & Destroy. It will only give you grief and poor protection.

Spybot search & destroy is actualy a weak program. I recommend superantispyware. It is very effective and it is free.

Because you have to pay a ridiculous price to enable it to delete. Thats why I searched out other free full working programs.
