No one knows for sure but here are some theories:
* The costume was inspired by burlesque theater.
* The costume idea is derived from French postcards, an early form of erotica.
* The costume is inspired by the Commedia dell'Arte stock characters of sixteenth century Italian theater.
* The costume represents the English interpretation of what a French housecleaner would look like, since France is stereotyped as a highly sexualized county.

Why? Why do ppl like you keep wasting space on blog sites to ask such stupid questions? The answer is simple:
During the rein of the napoleanic tribes of 1234AD, french men were very mad with their government so they decided to have mass sex parties with crazy costumes and pretty much crazy ppl. Thus the french maid costume was born out of the mind of a horny french guy who wanted to have sexual intercourse with his maid but didnt want the same old rags and tatter of conventional peasant maids. I really dont blame the guy, maids are pretty hot in those outfits. I cant believe you dont know that one!

Now long ago there was a lady called Pam. She was cousins with this guy from the ancient family of france. She was a maid for forty years and then she died. In honor of her death they took her maid outfit and made every maid in france wear it. The End.
