The Detroit Red Wings are a professional ice hockey team based in Detroit, Michigan, USA. They play in the National Hockey League (NHL).
When the Western Canada Hockey League folded after the 1925-26 WHL season, a deal was made so that a new NHL expansion franchise in Detroit bought the rights to the players of one of the most successful of the teams in that league, the 1925 Stanley Cup champion Victoria Cougars. Since no arena in the Motor City was ready at the time, the new Detroit Cougars (named in Victoria's honor) played their first season in Windsor, Ontario at the Border Cities Arena. For the 1927-28 season, the Cougars moved into the new Detroit Olympia, which would be their home rink until December 15, 1979.

No, it is not a cat name. Yes, Detroit does have a hockey team. The name of the hockey team is Detroit Redwings. They have won ten Stanley Cups and used to be the Detroit Cougars. By the way nice observation on how almost every Detroit professional sports team's name is a cat-like name!

Seriously next time before looking so stupid pick up a paper or something. I realize you may just not know but the Red Wings were one of the best teams for years. If nothing else go to NHL.com or something. Actually if we didn't all figure this was proably some contest thing it might not be as annoying.

no cat names like tiger or lion.they are the detroit red wings. back in the day the red wings were once known as the victoria cougars and detroit cougars. they have been in detroit since 1926. they won ten titles. hope this info helps.

it;s the detriot red wings. the logo is well, a wheel with a wing on it.and i believe they've been around for ages, infact, if i'm not mistaken they are one of the original 6 teams that started out the nhl !
