Hello. I smashed my finger at work today and was curious about how I can get out grease and engine oil. I've always had a problem with getting out the grease from my under my fingernails, so I'm not sure what would work. I usually use Go-Jo for my hands, but it requires a lot of rubbing to get it to acually work.

I tore about an eighth of the nail at the tip on my thumb. There's also a cut going into my thumb. When I open the cut, I can use grease, but I can't get it out! Will this cause an infection? I've been pouring alcoholevery two minutes to kill the germs, but I'm afraid of the grease being in there.

Working in the OR when we prepare the skin we are going to be operating on,we scrub the area with Betadine Solution and a nylon bristle brush.
For the most part we make a serious dent in the amount of grease we are trying to wash off but we never get it all.
Try using Betadine Solution which you can get at a pharmacy and a soft bristle toothbrush.
Watch the wound and if it shows signs of infection be sure to see a Dr.

Clean it with peroxide or alcohol.(ouch!!!!!!!!!) Put a antibotic cream in the cut.You can buy this over the counter. The oily antibotic will melt and come out of the cut with the grease. You might have to repeat this a few times. If so clean out good with peroxide before using antibiotic cream.Best would be to get it clean by a doctor but will hurt. Its worth the pain.

the grease will be fine,as long as you keep it clean, and the alcohol will break up the grease as well over a little time. you should not have to worry about it getting infected unless you do not take care of it. just clean best as you can, wrap it,and start the process over again in a couple of hours. you will be fine.

wash with liva soap and water, wash it 3 times the peroxide it.(comes in a little brown bottle). Also I would use burn oilment on it. because grease can cause burn when you walk in the sun. which could make the heal harder. there is some stuff they used at the hospital for burns that is good stuff like peroxide but voilet in color and they use it in ice water. Ice water is good for burns and grease and oils are a way to get burned

The greese could easily cause an infection. Keep it well lathered with triple antibiotic and keep it covered with gauze or maybe a rubber/latex glove. I use latex gloves whenever I do greasy engine work. IT may look funny but it's better than a huge swollen hand and fever.
