Pepboys scooters= Made in China, Honda= Made in Japan There is no comparison, if you are considering a Honda than forget about what you seen at Pepboys. And remember if you need to take the scooter back to be worked on Pepboys don't work on them but the Honda will have a warranty and you know you can always take it back to them...

There are dozens of Chinese knock offs being sold around the country now. At Pep Boys, at trailer lots, beside the roads from the back of horse trailers. My neighbor was bragging to me about the two he bought on line. I can not even pronounce the name, but they are all the same. First of all he could not even register them in Calif. They were 150cc scooters, but not certified in Cal. So he rode them for about a month, and the crank broke in the one. A month later the engine seized, probably a piston, on the other. When he called the place he had ordered them from, guess what , sorry we no longer have the Bung Chung 150. We have no parts. Usually these dealers(?) tell the people who buy them to "Go to Honda dealer, is just like Honda." Not quite. My neighbor now has 2 $900.00 boat anchors. Pep Boys? Would you buy a no name computer from a 7-11? Same kind of deal. A 20 year old Honda scooter would be a better deal than this Chinese stuff. Why do you think it cost more? A Honda dealer makes no more than 7-10% mark up on a small scooter. The money is in the engineering, and the quality. Yamaha, as well as Vespa also makes some quality scooters.

I agree with all that's been said about no-name chinese scooters. Particularly, the ones at Pep-Boys are notorious for being sold by Pep-Boys, but not serviced by anyone under the sun. That's all well and good if they were built worth a dime. Muffler brackets break. Engines seize. Low output engines. It's just pathetic. And *that's* the real problem.
How...evah...there is one distinction to make between a no-name chinese scooter, and one that actually has a reputable name. Kymco is made in China (actually, Taiwan--but let's not make this a political thing). And Vento is also a Chinese-built scooter manufacturer. Both the Vento and the Kymco are solid scoot manufacturers capable of world-class manufacturing tolerances, hence good final build quality. You should not expect many issues with either of these two manufacturers.
With any of these, though, you do have to make sure that either 1) you're technically proficient enough to take care of the scooter yourself with a mail-order arrangement if anything ever does happen to break or 2) you're near enough to a reputable service center for them to handle routine maintenance/repairs. *any* machine will require routine maintenance. Yes, even japanese ones. Yamaha/Honda both have the dealer network for powersports equipment in the States such that they can back up their products easily here. These smaller companies have a smaller network, so it's not always easy to find service.

They are not the same quality. Those sold by Pepboys are from China and are very low quality. It's a nightmare trying to find parts for them and they just don't hold up.
Spend the money on the Honda, and you'll actually be money ahead. Trust me on this, I work in the motorcycle industry and I've seen these things come in for work and parts. They are disposables.
As far as speed goes, talk to your Honda dealer, he can tell you.

I agree, Honda is definitly the way to go. If you break down, those guys at pep boys aren't going to be able to fix it. They are basically disposible semi-transportation. That 2000 dollar elite has been made for about 20 years, and there are lots of parts and accessories forit, as well as people who know how to fix them. also dont forget resale value. if you decide you dont like riding your little scooter, you wont get much for selling a used no name scooter, but the elite will have a much higher resale value.
and you might be able to make them faster, but i think it will take more mods that remob=ving the gov. on a moter with those ity bity cc's.

The honda will definitely be much better. I don't think I'd buy any of the "vehicles" that are for sale at pep boys. It might be a pretty cheap ride though. I'd be concerned about being able to get replacement parts for them though. Probably best to ask the guys at pep boys what they think. They don't work for commission so you'll probably get a quality answer from them.
