I need a definite answer on this because its driving me nuts. I know alot about computers, and i didnt think this would be why... but, I just installed a new CD-RW / DVD combo drive that is 16x DVD reading speed, and 52x Burning speed (for cd's). My videos are all "choppy" and the sound quality isnt too great, its not real bad, its just the sound that irritates me. I have the Nvidia video codec, and K-Lite Pro (which i only needed so that my dvds would play on windows media player) and I have an Mpeg-4 Video Decoder, but it still wont work well. I just need to know if I need a faster drive or not, or if there are any codecs or decoders i need. Any Suggestions? (Please answer only if you actually know what youre talking about, thanks!)

Most likely, your computer might not have enough Ram, and/or a fast enough graphics card. When you bought your DVD drive, did you look at the minimum requirements? Whatever they were, especially the RAM, you ought to double it if you can afford it. This is actually a difficult diagnoses to make without actually having the computer before me. You also might want to try updating the driver that came with the drive from it's manufacturer website. Also, check your device manager for the drive and see if there are any problems there or conflicts.

What was the speed at which the CDs and DVDs were burn? All the problems you mentioned are consistent with burning too fast. Try lowering the speed to 2x and see if that solves the problem.

If you don't have a DVD decoder card, then the system processor is doing the decoding. Your processor may be to busy. See if it runs well when nothing else is running.

Another possibility, try different dvd player software.

I had the same problem, try a slower burning speed and see if that helps..if you are using cheap dvd's sometimes thats the problem too.ex..frys brand. Also before you burn do you preview the movies from you hard drive? Im sure you do but just a thought maybe...but I think its the burning speed..
