Pull the damn toilet! I just had the same problem, mine was a basket from a piss mint that the kid flushed, I sat the toilet on a bucket and flushed it after filling it with a bucket, it ran real slow, I messed with it with a cable snake, sticking it in the bottom hole (censor that Yahoo) and out popped a "toy". Try that. if it doesn't work snake the drain. COST?
Snake, Wal-Mart - 25 foot $9.96
Wax-seal , Wal-Mart, $1.96
Toilet bolts(Wal-Marts suck)Ace Hardware2.99
Nitrile or Latex gloves $2.99

Less than $20.00
Plumber; more than $275
It's real easy, e-mail me if you need help

Go to the hardware stor and ask for a surger to unclog a drain pipe. It is a small bulb that attaches to the end of the garden hose. You put it in the toilet hole and turn the water on. Make sure it is pushed in far enough to not throw water out. It surges and pulsates and unclogs whatever got into the line. It cost much less than a plumber and you will have it next time. Have them explain exactly how to use it. We have saved a whole lot of money by using that piece of hardware and not calling a plumber everytime. You could also have a tree root problem. It is better than a snake. A snake didn't do anything for ours. Good Luck to you.

Have you tried Draino? Mr. Plumber? (products that
you pour into the toilet and flush down the drain to
unclog stoppages.

Have you tried to clear the clog with a long coiled metal snake tool?

How high above the local water table is your toilet?
Such as you live in the mountains, or at the seashore,
or river side.

Is this a single family home on private property, a rental home, an apartment building, a mobile home.

How many other bathrooms feed into the same sewage line in your immediate area? Such as: We have three
bathrooms in our house, but only this one has a problem. Or all three have this problem...

Furnish this information and we can go farther.
In case you do not have the time ...

Try Draino
Try Mr. Plumber
Try a metal coiled snake tool.

it sounda like something fell into the toilet and it's caught in the built in trap that all toilets have to prevent sewer gasses from coming through.the toilet has to come up.knowing this you can call different plumbers and get a price up front.a small non-union shop would be the cheapest.not roto rooter or one of those guys.preferably a plumber that is self employed or moonlighing on the side.or a friend that is mechanically inclined...good luck

THERE HAS PROBABLY BEEN A TOY OR BOTTLE LID OR ETC FELL INTO IT, I AM A PLUMBER AND RUN INTO THIS ALL THE TIME. GO TO YOUR LOCAL HARDWARE STORE AND GET A TOILET AUGER, THE MORE EXPENSIVE IT IS THE BETTER IT WORKS , A GOOD ONE USUALLY RUNS ABOUT $30 AND RUN THIS THROUGH THE TOILET AND TRY TO GET THE CLOG OUT , IF THIS DOESNT WORK YOU CAN TAKE THE TOILET UP AND TAKE OUTSIDE AND TURN UPSIDE DOWN AND RUN A GARDEN HOSE IN IT AND TRY TO BACKFLUSH THE CLOG OUT, THESE ARE THE BEST WAYS, IF YOOU NEED A PLUMBER IT DEPENDS ON WHERRE YOU LIVE AND HOW MUCH THEY CHARGE, GOOD LUCK.

First Put Drano and listen to music for One hour or more.
Then fill up two buckets of water 4gallon buckets
After the music has calmed you and you feel energetic thump both the buckets of water down the flush with your force. Swing the water into the flush full force. Make sure you are wearing shorts or working overalls as water will splash out too.
After both the buckets have been forcefully put down the flush most of the paper clogs shall disappear.
Next put Drano again in the Night and leave it overnight and repeat the two bucket syndrome again
You shall feel satisfied and happy that you did it all by yourself.
Best of working and fun
