first and foremost you don't mention the grandbaby's age, you should be checking with your doctor.

But a home made remedy which replaces pedialyte, and gastrolyte or lytren is as follows

Sugar- Salt Oral Rehydration Solution

2 Tbsp Sugar
1/4 tsp Salt
4 cups Boiled, cooled water
1/4 tsp Baking soda
(If you do not have baking soda you can use just the salt and increase the amount to 1/2 tsp)

no fruit juice or sugar based drinks as it only adds to the problem
