Shoes? They wore shoes with those dresses? I never noticed! Wonder why? Hee, hee.

Things have certainly changed. I graduated from high school in 1960. At that time, dresses went halfway down to the ankles, and that is what we were used to.

One day, in study hall, probably 1958 or 1959, Betty Butschi allowed her dress to slide up so I could see her knees. I don't think it was on purpose or anything; she was a sweet, cute, smart girl and was probably studying and never noticed. I had one of the worst hormone attacks of my entire life to date. Her knees were so incredibly gorgeous and smooth and sexy I couldn't believe it.

Five or six years later, the skirts were so short they were more wide belts than skirts. It's all what we are used to that made the difference.

poodle and floral skirts with plain button-up blouses tucked into them. shoes that looked kind of like bowling shoes... if you go to one of the 50's style diners you'll get an idea. also watch hairspray the movie for ideas about the clothes. the movie is staged at the turn of the decade (50's turning to 60's) vut the clothes are exactly what i'm talking about. :)

saddle oxfords. They are white shoes with a black "saddle" shape across the top of your foot. I haven't seen em in years, but I made myself a pair for Halloween a few years ago by buying cheap canvas (Keds style) shoes at walmart and using fabric paint to paint the saddle part black. (A seam outlines the shape- it goes across the top of your foot like a mini-saddle.) You'll need to take out the laces before you paint, and have patience to do a neat job- if you mess up, use white out to cover your mistake. Mine looked great!

They are called saddle shoes and they are black at the toe and the heel/white in the middle worn with bobby socks.

White canvas sneakers that they polished to keep white. Keds still makes them. The other option would penny loafers, polished with shiny pennies in them.
