I have had a lot of pets though out the years, some have been strays, some I have had since they were small, all really well loved.
All have had different personalities, and all have been treasured.
I wondered if like me you did have one or two that stood out above the rest and why that was so.
Is it to do with the level of attachment or set of circumstance?
Were they the family pet or did they belong to you?
What type of animal do you relate to and does this make a difference to your liking of them?. Would you have another if you could?

I'VE HAD 12 HORSES (9 WERE RESCUES), 15 DOGS (7 RESCUES), 7 CATS (2 RESCUES), RABBITS, GUINEA PIGS, A GERBIL, AND FISH. DOGS AND HORSES ARE MY PREFERENCE BECAUSE SMALL ANIMALS MAKE ME NERVOUS. EACH DOG, HORSE AND CAT HOLDS A SPECIAL MEMORY IN MY HEART. IN MAY OF 2005 I HAD TO PUT TWO OF MY DOGS DOWN AT THE SAME TIME. THEY WERE BOTH PRETTY OLD AND SICK. I COULDN'T GET OUT OF BED FOR 2 WEEKS. WE STILL HAD 3 DOGS AND I TOLD MY HUSBAND NO MORE. I CAN'T GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN. HIS RESPONSE WAS " IF YOU DON'T RECUE THEM, WHO WILL"? ABOUT A MONTH LATER WE RESCUED ROCKY. 4 DOGS RIGHT NOW, AND EACH IS UNIQUE FOR A DIFFERENT REASON.

I have a cat right now. In the past I had ratties, guinea pigs, mice, hamsters &spiny mice. I must say that my favorite was Marybaby Rattie of all my animals. She was born at my house and was my heart. She was mine as were her mom, and two aunts. She was one of 6 ratties that I owned at that time. She would get out of her cage and hide. Then in the middle of the night she'd sneak up the stairs and give me kisses on my face. She would beg food like a dog and jump up on the couch or bed and give you a little nip to say hiya! She had to be put down four years ago but I still think of her. She had moxie! She had a personality of an angel. Affectionate, sweet, smart...just the absolute best little girl! I have had others I have loved dearly but that girl still has my heart! I would have many more ratties but there will never be another Marybaby! I will have other ratties but they will never be Marybaby! That girl was a once in a lifetime pet!

I dont think I could count how many pets I've had! Dogs, cats, fish birds and my latest is frogs. All have been unique and memorable in different ways. It's not only type of animal but often particular breed (I prefer German Shepherds to other breeds) that we relate to and that defines liking! I cant relate to Rodents so dont keep them and would say I was more disinterested than disliked them!
As I intend to keep animals till no longer able to the future animal I choose will depend on My ability to look after it.
I've loved them all and enjoyed my time with them I cant compare them as the reasons I've loved them is so different!

Well - i grew up with animals - meaning there was always at least one cat around - but sometimes 2and3. At the same time we also had a dog (she is gone now) and several aquariums with fish - i could never say that one animal was dear-er than the other - NO - they all had different 'personalities' - and they all were dear to me.

And yes - i would love to have a cat and a dog now - but because of the circumstances i can't have neither of them.

I have a dog (my baby). I love him to death! And I have 4 cats. Tiger, I've had the longest so I love him for that reason. Beauty, I got when she was only 2 weeks old. She was a rescue kitten. She got very attached to me because of the constant care. Precious, another rescue took her a long time to warm up to my family, but now she is my cat. I love her. Moxy, is more dog like than cat. My dog and him are best friends. Charlie, my cockatiel, is hand-tamed and whistles Twinkle Twinkle Little Star when you walk by him. He brightens up my mornings. Favorite? Can't pick.

I dont think I could choose a favorite. I get extremly attatched to all of my pets like you wouldnt believe, even all of my former pets that we have had that we had to put down or give away. I currently have a dog cat & a ferret. The ferret is my personal pet and she is my life, she is my favorite to play with but if something were to happen to any of them I would be devistated.

Lets see, my least favorite has been the hamster. I enjoyed my goldfish, but then one of the cats ate one. I really enjoyed having a turtle. He was fun and would come out when I called him for feeding time. He was more fun than I thought he would be. Plus, his care was easy. I also have and an anole. He was fun untill another cat knocked over his habitat and he went missing. He was easy to care for and that was about it. He did not do much. I really love having cats. After my first one passed, I really had to get another one, and have had four since then. I love them all equally. I love my mix breed dog. She is so much more loving being a rescue and loves to learn. Because of her, I will always have atleast one rescue mixed breed. I love my schnauzer, but the dog is too smart and barky. But I really love the scotties. After my first passed, I could not wait long and had to get another. Plus the schauzer missed her too. Then, I loved the scotty so much, I had to get another one six years later. Of my current pets, 3 cats and four dogs, I love the dogs a little more than the cats. Only because they are with me more. But they are all my babies.

We've had 3 rabbits in the past, a mouse, a dog and a hamster. I would really like another dog or maybe even a cat to keep me company as rabbits just don't do it.

i've had more than one dog at a time and no you really can't love one more over the other. yes, they do have different personalities, but that is what makes them what they are. you enjoy each one for what they stand for. they all love you back the same way, even though their personalities are different. they all want to be wanted and loved.
