Hey, do any of you know what it was really like to be a hippie? Minus all of the stereotypes. Were any of you there and actually hippies? Can you tell me anything about it. Anything at all: common sayings, what they wore, what they were strongly against and for... just anything at all? Thank you, bye.

Freedom of speech, not being drafted to go to war, peaceful protests, all things they were in favor of.
The hippies were reacting against the things their parents supported. Since the hippie movement was in America during the late fifties and earlt sixties, they were reacting against their parents who grew up during the 40s and 50s. I am speculating about the exact era.
I am just thinking the parents were so straighlaced that the original hippies were reacting against it.
Whatever the reason, I am glad for the hippie movement, it led to so many good things.
My older sister was a hippie I got the benefit of her experience.
My parents were more lenient, music was great, politics were questions.
