yay! A question I am an expert on. I collect bags!
Pocketbook - Like a wallet, but a tad bit larger. Can have 1 or more pockets in it.
Handbag - A mid-size bag that you can easily carry in one hand. It is not very large, but can be somewhat small
Purse - Covers all kinds of bags. Tenny-tiny to ginormous!

I'd say the age of the person describing their purse : )
Older ladies usually say pocketbook and handbag.
Those also sound smaller than just a regular purse.
(Pocketbook = book with pockets, ie, flat and small)
(Handbag = bag that fits in your hand)
Though I aint ever seen an old lady that carries a purse that fits either of those descriptions. : )
Tanya's right!

i'm extraordinarily particular they're diverse. a handbag is greater of a smaller handbag, an elementary one that in simple terms has small handles to hold around and would not generally have a protracted over the shoulder strap. A pocketbook is generally greater desirable, and consists of many wallet and zips and cubicles. a handbag is largely a universal term for each and all the forms of baggage. i'm undecided notwithstanding if or no longer it is real or wonderful, it quite is in simple terms how i might think of of it. desire it helps :)

a purse is what you can just easily put in your pocket, a pocketbook is much bigger than a purse but smaller than a handbag and a handbag is what pulls your outfit together

Purse: A small little thing that girls use to carry their phones, lipglosses and money. VERY Small.
Pocketbook: Whats that?
Handbag: a larger version of a purse, is usually seen with older women.

They are all the same thing. I'm in Western Canada, and we call it a purse. I think, from reading, that pocketbook is a more old-fashioned word.
