You are suppose to start your pills the First Sunday after you start your cycle. Wait until after you start. You should still use protection for more than a month, I believe it is 3 months.
Here is more information I found: Sunday start:
Take the first active pill of the package on the FIRST SUNDAY after your period STARTS, even if you are still bleeding. If your period starts on Sunday, you may start your pills the same day.
Use a backup method of birth control if you have intercourse, until you have taken the next "Sunday" pill of the cycle (seven days after starting the package).
WHAT DO I DO IF I MISS PILLS?
If you miss ONE ACTIVE PILL:
Take the missed pill as soon as you realize that you forgot a pill. Take the next one at your regular time. This may mean that you take two active pills in one day.
You do not need to use a backup birth control method if you have intercourse.
You may experience nausea for 12-24 hours.
You may experience spotting or bleeding, off-and-on, until you finish your birth control pill pack.

usually, you start taking the pill the sunday after your period starts. so if you start on a tuesday, wait till sunday. But read the instructions or call the doctor, just in case. Oh, and yes keep using a condom...remember the pill is only 99.9% effective

If the doctor told you to start on the Sunday after your period, then if you start on the 11th or 12th, you start the pill that Sunday (the 12th). If on the 13th, you start the following Sunday (the 19th).
You should contact the pharmacy or your doctor if you're not sure or concerned...

Generally, yes, although it can change how many pills you have to take before they achieve their maximum level of protection. You can check out this page from Planned Parenthood for more info:
