I'm an accountant. It's a responsible job, and one that commands respect in the workplace. You can work overseas. You will never be unemployed, as long as you want to work. You can get some really interesting jobs, as accounting opens up opportunities to branch out into other areas like human resource management. New areas of accounting becoming popular include forensic accounting - trying to work out why a business failed, or if fraud has been committed. I recommend it. Good luck.

I became an accountant because I never wanted to worry about finding a job. And I never will. Accountants are involved in every aspect of a business and, because of that, can generally move from one industry to another in a variety of positions. The logical flow of accounting gives one an ability to apply this skill to just about any position within a firm.

Cons - you are a beancounter, supposedly have no personality and never seem able to see the positive side of things - just the facts. Hours are what you make them. Work a lot make a lot, work a little, make a little less but still more than a lot of non-accountants. I wouldn't do anything else.
