No! The best way is to buy a router! You could hook your laptop to the other pc but it would need a nic card and cat 5 crossover cable, not to mention its a poor mans way of doing this! You can buy a wired router for about the same as you can a nic card!

If going dial up, both computers need to have a ethernet board or ethernet connection built in. Then just get a ethernet hub to connect the two. You need the internet software such as Internet Explorer os some other web browser installed on both computers. You make the fastest computer the main one to dial out.Good Luck.

Are you saying that you can connect to the Internet with your desktop but your laptop does not have the equiptment installed to connect? Why do you want to connect with Your laptop if you already can connect with your desktop..? You can set up your laptop to connect to the internet through another computer ... it is in the network setup for XP.. you will have to do a peer to peer network initially.. and it should work then.

see you later as you've a community card contained in the computer and an open port on the router you could upload the computer pc on your community. If the computer is in a separate room faraway from the router upload a instant card to the computer and run it utilising instant. That way there is not any elect to run cable all around the abode. I extremely have 2 computers and three laptops and all of of them use instant to connect to the router.

If your desktop has a cable modem or dsl and router, you can work off of that connection on your laptop if your laptop has a wireless(wi-fi) card. You do not have to connect your laptop using wires to your desktop.
Just buy a Wireless card and insert it in your laptop.
