Aside from their voting record, no, and it is all irrelevant what they 'say' because they may never 'do' anything.
They avoid saying too much because someone will get upset and they really want votes.
Check their voting record ! otherwise their reall views are actually a SECRET ! (see the stories about Florida's Foley)

You really need to research this. Don't count on anything they say while campaigning. Too bad we can't hold them accountable for their lies and their promises.
I also think we should be able to dock them when they don't show up for work. How can they represent us when they are not even in Washington during debates and votes.

You can access their voting record. It it's a Congressman, you can access it through the Congressional Review or via internet. Many states have the same type thing for their state reps.

The best way would be to look up how the voted on bills but you would also have to know everything that was in the bill too.
