the main character was formely a priest. he left the priesthood because of an accident that killed his wife.
his son has asthma. He had an attack during the alien invasion. An alien try to kill his son with a inhaled poison. However, since his lungs were closed from the attack he did not get affected. So he felt there was a reason for his son's asthma.
When his wife was dying, she said something that came back at the end to help them. At the time he thought it was just a random memory going through her mind.
His daughter always found a reason to not finish a glass of water. There were dozens of half drank glasses of water around the house. It was determined that it was direct contact with water that killed the aliens. So, he felt there was a reason behind her daughter pickiness to water.
In the end, he returns to priesthood.

Faith is revealed in how all of the characters play a part in each other's lives (God's BIG picture) even though we are unaware.
Shyamalan kills Mel Gibson's wife who utters "swing away" as she dies. Phoenix has a baseball stud past that comes in useful later..just like the little girl's water glasses everywhere. The little boy's curiosity ends up being very informative for defense measures as well as his asthma.
The movie is about "signs" (duh) not so much about faith. It's a forest for the trees kinda message. In other words, if you look at one thing, it doesn't mean anything alone. But if you step back and take it ALL in, then life has meaning.
All of that is revealed in the pivotal scene where Mel realizes what his dying wife's words meant.

I watched it, not too bad, some funny/creepy stuff. Faith is pin pointed in the movie by Mel's character losing his faith in god after his wife is killed in a car crash. He is brought back around to the faith side of thinking by signs that he sees throughout the movie, ie: sons asthma saves him from inhaling toxic gas; daughter leaves water glasses all over the house and the aliens are 'allergic' to water. I am sure there is more that I missed, but I don't wanna answer any more :-(

You can talk about how the father was a priest and how he lost his faith after his wife died and all the emotions and things he went throught. Then at the end you can talk about how he regained it after everything with the aliens and almost dying. How he knows there is a reason everything happens

The movie is good, but really has nothing to do with faith.
Try reading the Bible. Stories of Noah, Abraham...etc
