there is a foreign language literal translation. i forget the entire thing something like rouli vous plai or something close to that. basically is means your reply is needed. so they invited you and you do not reply then show up you will not have a place to sit possibly or food to eat. they need to know how much to spend and plan for food on things like this.

simlpe terms. PLEASE REPLY OR RESPOND....

The letters stand for 'respondez s'il vous plait' which is French for 'reply if you please' It indicates that you should inform your host, usually in writing, if you will be attending . It is polite to respond, even if you're not going, because the host needs numbers for catering etc. It usually appears on formal invitations for weddings and 21st birthday parties etc.

It is an accepted French term for

respondez sil vous plait.... it is usually put on the cards that you send out for birthdays/dinners/anniversaries/other events that you are inviting people to. and of course, it means that a reply would be appreciated

They mean if you have any manners and good breeding, you will let the senders of the particular invitation know whether or not you plan to attend their event...and you'll inform them well before the event is scheduled to take place!

Its french.

Respondez Sil Vous Plait.

Which means, respond, please. Becuase no one likes inviting a whole bunch of people to their party, and having only five people show up, or not being prepared for thirty people showing up.

I think it's something like Respondez Sil Vous Plait. I translates to Respond, if you please.

Respondez, sil vous plait. (Forgive the misspellings, if they exist.) It's simply French for Please Respond.
