Ian Hunter sang the original version, both versions are great!! It is always good when a good band does a GOOD remake of a great song. Let's not talk about Madonna doing American Pie grrrrrrr

I believe it was Ian Hunter, from his self-titled 1975 album. He used to wear the sunglasses for Mott the Hoople.
