Yes, they did get rescued and decided that they enjoyed living on the island. On a later show called "Return to Gilligan's Island", they show that all of them still live there and have turned the island into a resort. The Harlem Globetrotters came for a visit and ended up playing a game against robots because Mr. Howell's son lost the resort in a bet and the Globetrotters' were trying to help them get it back.

I believe that was the storyline, but it came on in the early 80's so I might not remember it all.

I don't think there was an episode that went with the series, but there was a movie made where they tie a bunch of huts together and float to see after a great big storm , but they find coming back isn't what they truly want so they go back to the island and set up a resort. I think there may have been one more movie .

will_lynn was almost right..but it was 1978 when they were rescued..meaning that they spent 14 years on the island, having been shipwrecked in 1964.

And yes, it was a TV movie with the original cast except for Tina Louise, who thought a return as Ginger Grant was beneath her.

It is hard for me to remember that long ago, but it seems to me they had a special on TV which did show them being rescued. And, they were so glad they went for a boat ride, and guess what?????????? Right back there.

This might be a false memory, but I do remember that.

yup. It was a movie, and they all ended up back on the island at the end. That way they could continue to show reruns
