Area = L x B
So L = (4671.5 ÷ B) ft (B must be in ft)

2006-10-27 13:10:32 · answer #1 · answered by Wal C 6 · 0 1

L*B=4671.5 sq ft
where L=length(ft) and B=breadth(ft)

you need more information in order to do the
calculation

for example you might given the length in terms of the
breadth of vice-versa

that is, L=B+3 or L=11/8*B or B=1/2*L etc and
work from there

i hope that this helps

Let us suppose that "length 4671.5 feet, breadth 1 foot" is too easy an answer to earn any marks. Then the only other simple answer is "length 9343 feet, breadth 0.5 feet".

Because 9343 is a prime number, every other combination of length and breadth giving this area would have fractions of a foot which needed extra decimal places, or repeating decimals.

to answer this you need to know the ratio in length between the length and breadth (ie, 3:2, 5:3 etc). To find the legth and breadth combined, use the sq route button on a calculator!

There are an infinite number of answers.

Any two numbers of feet, which multiplied together give the answer 4671.5 square feet are solutions to this problem.

There are an infinite number of solutions to
l x b = 4671.5

For example

1 x 4671.5 = 4671.5
2 x 2335.7 = 4671.5
3 x 1557.2 = 4671.5 etc. (and they don't have to be whole numbers)

(numbers are rounded to 1 place of decimals)

You need some extra information to give a unique solution.

For example, you may be told that the length is twice the breadth.

in this case

2b x b = 4671.5

2b squared = 4671.5 (sorry I don't know how to insert superscript in the yahoo message board)

b squared = 2335.7

b = square root of 2335.7

Hope this helps.....ask for the rest of the question!

There are many different possible length x width combinations that result in 4671.5 sq ft so you need more information like the ratio between the length and width. For example, if L=5W, then L*W=5W*W=4671.5, and you can solve for W and then L.

There is no definitive answer. You could take the square root of the area to get the dimensions of a square room (68'-4") or you could ascribe any dimmension to one side of the room (say, 50') and find the other dimention of a rectangular by dividing the first into the area (93'-5"). If the room isn't square, you don't stand any chance of working it out.

You can not find the length and bredth of an area unless one of them is given. E.g. In the example you provide.

L = 4671.5
B = 1

Or

L = 1
B = 4671.5

Or

L = 2335.75
B = 2

Or

L = 2
B = 2335.75

Etc ad infinitum.

All are valid and correct answers.
