What web browser are you using? Goto the help menu and select "about" to determine this. What version of Windows are you running? (Look on the start menu.)

ONE POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
Goto the "view" menu, and then "toolbars". Is the address bar checked? If not make sure it is.

If that doesn't work:

Another easy solution is to try (re)installing your web-browser. Try going here: http://getfirefox.com and following the instructions to install firefox. This may be the brute force approach to things, but it will probably work. Hard to say exactly what your problem is without more specific info.

you should be able to if you are using Internet Explorer to rearrange your toolbars, more than likely you have just made that part of the toolbar to small on accident, but if all else fails, you can always use the backspace button to go back from web page to web page

you lost the button, or the function of the button? If function, go to "tools" and settings tab in history & check how many days you are to keep pages in history. If it's 0, change to 1.
