because most of them are young kids that usually go out every night and get drunk so therefore they actually have a mean hangover. next time you think one of them is having a bad day, asked them if they went out drinking the night before. most likely they'll say "yes"

i use to work in a coffee shop and it can get very busy at times watching your fellow employees stand around talking while you are the one working can make any day a bad day. Standing on your feet for 8 hours especially when you have not so comfortable shoes on stresses your back and back ache can give you that i am having a bad day look.

Well it can be tip related, stress related but I have found ( i am a mngr in a restaurant) that the main reason is because they are not doing something they like, it is just a job that they had to take cause of various reasons.

Its wrong in the service indusrty to do that but sometimes u just can't not show your emotions because some cutomers got you angry or your personal life is a real bummer.

They may have got stiffed on a tip, and they thought they did a great job on the table. I was a waiter at one time.
