Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to become pregnant in the 8 weeks after delivering a baby. I have always not had a period return for months so I don't want to use protection but should I right after this soon. Also, my doctor oked sex after 4 weeks for me. Thank you so much !

Yes, it is. You can ovulate (and thus be fertile) even before the return of your first period after your baby. If you are nursing, full-time, with NO supplemental bottles at all, then the liklihood of this happening is very small--you probably have until around 6 months (your baby's age) when you begin to supplement with other foods before you need to be sure to use another method, BUT, that does not always hold, either. I have heard of women getting pregnant two or three months after the birth of their baby, even though they were nursing totally on-demand. So, if you are not comfortable with the idea of becoming pregnant right away again, better to be safe than sorry--use something. Personally, I nursed my babies (two) full-time for the first year, and didn't worry too much about conceiving for the first six months (as in, I didn't use any protection during that time). After my first son, once he turned six months, I began to use hormonal contraceptives again. But after my second, I am not so concerned with getting pregnant again--it would be okay. So he's ten months, and I'm still not using any birth control, and I'm nursing only a couple of times a day. Good luck!

I was born on May 12 1982 and my sis was born April 30 1983. We are 12 days short of a year apart. Considering one is pregnant for 9-10 months, that means my mom got pregnant when I was 1 or 2 months old.

Usually doctors say 6 weeks. That is after your 6 week checkup to make sure everything is okay. YES it is possible to get pregnant after having a baby. My friend Kat just had her second child exactly 10 months after her first was born.

You definately can get pregnant right after having a baby. I had mine 3 months ago and I went on the pill right after, even though I was nursing. You can get low hormone pills from your doctor which are safe for your baby. If nothing else you could use condoms. You are still ovulating even if you don't have a period.

YES!!! You are very fertile just after having a baby. I got pregnant when my baby was 12 weeks old. They are 12 months apart. I was upset when I found out and it was pretty hard on my body, but now they are 3 and 4 and I LOVE it. I can't imagine it any other way!

YES! You are actually VERY fertile for SIX weeks after you give birth. Don`t know why your doctor would tell you four! You should DEFINATELY use protection if you don`t want another baby! My mom got pregnant 5 weeks after giving birth because her period stopped and she thought the "fertile phase" was over.

Yes use protection that is how I ended up with a boy and girl 13 monthes apart. If you dont want to change to sets of diapers I suggest your birth control of some sort that way you can still have a sex life.

Yes. After having a baby you are incredibly more fertile than ever before, so be careful unless you do want another baby.
Just because you have no period yet doesn't mean you can't get pregnant.

Very normal to not have period after giving birth. It took me a year to get mine. Very possible to get pregnant after giving birth as well, even if you are breastfeeding. You should use protection, unless you want to become pregnant again.

I am 5 months pregnant , and before that didn't have a period for 7 months. No period doesn't mean a thing you will ovulate before you actually have a period. Be careful if you're not ready for another!!!
