the harder the wood the slower and hotter it burns . also the lighter the wood the softer it is and it will burn faster . I 'd say use hickory or oak .or the hardest wood in your area . call a tree trimmer for info

boise d'arc is hottest in usa. then walnut, cherry, black locust, black jack oak, live oak, ash, cottonwood... only use pine or elm is a sealed unit because it pops too much.. "seasoned" is code for "old and dry"- it burns faster and is commonly used for kindling, which is needed for the hotter and longer burning green woods.

Oak is the way to go but for those great visual effects of color cherry is great .
