First you have to figure out what the ban hostmask is. Log on to the IRC server and type /mode #channel +b where channel is the name of the channel you've been banned from. Identify the ban that applies to you. Ban's will be in the format nick!ident@host. * is used as a wildcard. If the ban specifies a specific nick or ident, then getting around it is as easy as changing your nick or ident.

If its in the format *!*@your-host.com then its a bit harder. Depending on how specific it is, you may be able to circumvent it by disconnecting and reconnecting, which if your isp assigns you a dynamic IP, as most do, will give you a new IP. NOTE: you must disconnect and reconnect your dsl/cable modem or whatever, not the windows networking thing.

If the ban is too general for you to get around by updating your ip, you still have some options. One is to find an open http proxy.. this really isn't too hard -- there are lists available all over the internet. You then configure your irc client to connect through this proxy so it will appear like you are coming from that host, not your real host.

Another option is to get a shell account setup a BNC... with a BNC generally you'll have a bunch of VHOSTS available too you, which makes ban evasion easy.

Anyway, hopefully you won't use this info to be an a$$hole. Good luck.
