Ok I just asked a question about having a six pack while pregnant and everyone said you shouldn't work out you abs when you are pregnant. It made me wonder....what can you work out? Legs? arms and shoulders? I know you can walk but can you run? I heard it was good to work out while pregnant but everyone said abs was bad for the baby. Is anything else bad? BTW I am NOT pregnant and I am not trying to hurt a baby....I am just wondering....

all i know is that you should not start any sort of new excersice once you become pregnant because it is not good to put a new strain on a pregnant woman. Anything you were doing before you became pregnant is usually alright to continue during your pregnancy although running or strenuous ab work might be something to discuss with a doctor

You can work out anything, abs too. Only do not lie on the back while doing it, you can be on all fours, lie on your side (left preferred), or you can do it sitting up and leaning back towards the couch or high stack of pillows so that your heart is higher than the baby. Ab excersizes support your lower back, which is very important during pregnancy.I was excersizing 3 times a week and have a healthy baby Yana now (born Aug 21 2006). Have a halthy pregnancy and baby :).

As long as it is ok with your doctor they do have Pilates and Yoga DVDs/Videos for pregnant women. These are a little different than the traditional exercises as you are not supposed to lay on your back for extended periods after a certain point in your pregnancy because it can cut off blood flow to the placenta.

yes you can work out while you are pregnant, and you can run if you have already been running. you should not start an exercise regimine if you never exercise though. and for sit ups, yes you can do sit ups for a little while but you will find that you cannot after a few months.

I was told when I was pregnant not to exercise on my back after the first trimester because it could cut off oxygen to the baby.

You can't over exert yourself when you're pregnant, but exercise isn't out of the question. Exercises you can do are pregnancy yoga, swim, walk and other low-impact exercises.
