One official ban that I have heard about is at Willett elementary school in Attleboro, Massachusetts, south of Boston. School officials there have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable.
Elementary schools in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Spokane, Washington, also recently banned tag during recess. A suburban Charleston, South Carolina, school outlawed all unsupervised contact sports.
This is another case of kids' lives being micromanaged by those in authority who would rather punish them by banning activities than provide proper supervision. This along with "lawsuit happy" mentality that seems to be taking over this country.
I played tag, football, and dodgeball in school. I had my share of bumps and bruises, but I survived and learned some valuable social skills in the process.
