Assuming you were of voting age, registered to vote, and voted in the election prior to the passing of the Patriot Act; then, you voted for the representatives who passed the legislation. When you vote for congressional representatives, you select someone you trust to vote the way you would on most issues. I doubt anyone is going to find someone they agree with 100% of the time so settling for most of the time is the best anyone can do.

Then, since this is a representative republic, your elected representatives made the choice for you. You can watch current legislation on C-Span or go to any of the various congressional websites. If you have an opinion on a particular issue being voted on, tell your representative via an email or call his/her office. Most representatives want to be re-elected so they will do what their districts want. But, without feedback, they can't do anything based on public opinion.

I'm guessing because you were never elected to the House or Senate.

We don't get to vote on 99.99% of laws, because that is the way our gov't is set up. We elect the people that write and vote on the laws.

This is a "Representative Republic" not a pure Democracy. Your Congressmen and Senators voted for you (unless you live in D.C.).

Because the US is not a democracy, as commonly believed, but in fact a republic. Sorry, you don't really get a say in everything that goes on- that only happens in democracies.
