They can think, but can't do very well with abstract thought. In other words, don't expect your dog to sit around contemplating the constructions of a good bone. No, he'll think about where he buried it and how good it tastes once it's dug up and it's about time to go find it.
Some dogs, just like some people, are smarter than others. Dogs do think, they can remember how to do things, and smart ones can learn to recognize up to about 200 human words. Some dogs can problem-solve as they go and figure things out.
One person said that if you don't think dogs can count, let the dog see you put three dog biscuits into your pocket, and then only give him two.

Absolutely, for example when I let my dog outside and she runs back in the house she suddenly pauses for a sec turns back around and then comes back. (she realized she left her toy outside). If your around a dog long enough you take notice that they are definitely thinking about something, some sort of thought process has to take place in their mind, I work in the animal industry and would have to say most of the animals I come across seem to act more on thought than instinct. Just my opinion :)

Of course! They are smart critters, just smart in a different way than humans! I can see the little wheels turning when my dog is thinking about doing something rotten.

Yes a dog can think.
Have you ever seen a dog stalk a cat, it is thinking how he can sneek up on it without the cat catching him.
If they couldn't think, they couldn't learn.

Sometimes I think they can. When mine gets into mischief I can almost see her thinking about how she can get away with it

I'm pretty sure they do. I mean how do they know when they're hungry or when their masters coming home?
