The same question can be asked about other countries, as well, who still practice this such as here in the USA.

There was a time here when they were debating doing away with Daylight Saving Time here, but the energy crunch came and they decided to continue with DST to cut energy needs and costs.

You make it sound as if something happened in the past that made us need daylight saving, which is no longer the case...? As far as I know the tilt of the Earth has not changed the amount of daylight Britain gets at any time of year.

But I do believe it would be nicer to have BST all year round... Losing daylight at 4pm is quite depressing.

I dont think that we should switch from GMT & BST to CET & CEST as is proposed as that will hardly make a difference. I hate losing an hour's sleep at the start of summer but love gaining an hour's sleep in October. Can't really see the point. During winter most of us go to work when it's dark and come home when it's dark what difference does an hour make?

Don't think so I'm sure I heard somewhere it was originally brought in during the war to give farmers longer in the fields to increase production so i can't see a real need for it now only bonus is extra hour in bed when clocks go back but you have to make sure your not working when they go forward.

No, but then we don't need the bad weather either - it's just something us Brits have learned to live with. If clocks did the job by themselves, it would be alright, but when you have to go round altering loads of clocks & watches twice a year, it becomes a bit tedious.

I argue the fact when people say, ooh we have an extra hour this weekend, i argue no we dont it takes an hour going round the house altering all the clocks!!

NO!! Scrap the stupid thing! nights close in early enough and the mornings are still dark anyway, so we're no better off.

No! but I think we should stay on 'summertime' all year round this would bring us in line with most European countries - good for business. I hear they are talking about having double summertime - staying on current BST and adding another hour in summer!
