Because the PC thing again...Really so stupid. As if white people would bother that there are some white dolls out there . It is only a doll, only a doll. Grow up.
Just noticed the above answer that said 'wog' is used as a term of abuse. I have no idea as to how the word is used but it is still only a word . Then why not change the word on the dolls if the black people are so touchy.....Why be so bothered about words.
Had to come back again Frog said what 'Wog' stands for. That to me is a compliment not an insult. I have always stood up for anyone being teased or annoyed but I am getting tired of it all now. I was born white and will be white 'till I die. Nothing I can do about it. Black people are born black and they will be black 'till they die and all the complaining in the world will not change. They should stop being so full of themselves and stop trying to dominate every other colour .
Wish to God we all turned bright blue with feathers overnight. Maybe they would apply their brainpower to greater things then.

I cannot remember when it happened. I do remember collecting the paper gollies when i was a child and redeeming them for brooches.
I also had the complete collection of Noddy books and it never occurred to me, although i don't think that i am a dunce, that the Golliwog was anything other than a character in the same way that Noddy or Big Ears was.
I think it is incredibly sad that people should have felt so threatened by it.
Collecting Golliwogs didn't make me grow up into a racist, nor anyone else that I know. But that's life.

The much loved Golly Wog was banned because some pratt wanted to cause mischief and so the ball rolled and our British way of life became extinct. The black man was the first racist, I know because he came to my school in 1955 with a big chip on his shoulder he said the white man is no good, so I beat the **** out of him. That's how it all started.

If you mean take the gollywog off their pots, because the little black dolls are now not politically correct! Little black dolls that kids used to play with were fine but the name is offensive because "wog" is used as a term of abuse.

Because 'wog' was a derogatory reference to a Negro's colour/race.
W.O.G was originally a term of respect = Worthy Oriental Gentleman.
'Golly' is still used.

Because they were seen as racist in the politically correct 80's. The same happened when they tried to ban baa baa black sheep and the wonderful book 'little black Sambo' but these lovely sweet non-aggressive, harmless children's favourites are making a massive come back.

It had become not politically correct and was seen as discrimination against black people. In Thailand they used to have a toothpaste called Darkie, it showed a black man with brilliant white teeth. Now it,s called Darlie. We got to move with the times.
