There are a few factors in play here.

Firstly, Rush Limbaugh is mostly popular in the areas of this country which have the lowest IQ's (Intelligence Quotients). Scientific studies of demographics, testing levels, and academic achievement show that the northeast has the highest IQ's, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, etc.... areas where Limbaugh's talk show isnt even on the airwaves, because no one will listen to his lies, gibberish, racism, fearmongering, extreme right wing fascist rhetoric. Likewise, he is most popular in the states with the lowest intelligence, mostly in the south and western areas of the country.

Secondly, people who listen to Limbaugh, dont read nearly enough. This makes it easy for him to lie, or spin issues. Uninformed people, those who fail to get news from multiple sources, and those who fail to think objectively and rationally about what they see and hear in the news, are gullible, naive and easily duped. This is a self feeding cycle ; Limbaugh capitalizes on this, perpetuating the cycle.

Thirdly, Rush has that evangelical christian appeal, for some unknown reason. Much like the Nazi's in Germany last century, extreme right wing media uses fanatical religious dogma in order to capture its audience on an emotional level ; foolish people who still live in the middle ages, these Christian Zealots still believe the earth is flat, the earth was made in seven days literally, some guy named Joshua two thousand years ago actually rose from the dead and appearred to his cult members as a ghost and gave them a mission ; they also disavow most modern science, for example, evolution, global warming contributions from humanity, and the fact that your car emits poisonous gas. This kind of mentality is known as the cult of personality. Weak minded, low intelligence and under educated people who have little if no motivation to learn anything on their own ambition, will 'go with the crowd' so that they can satisfy their primitive egos. The world view of this crowd has not evolved since the year 1200. Ironically it's the same problem which exists in Iraq today. Again, Rush only further contributes to this lack of understanding, by filling their heads with more gibberish.

Identifying the root of this problem is very much like asking the question , which came first, the chicken or the egg. The fact of the matter is that primitive creatures are by definition uneducated. Unfortunately the system has failed the populace in these areas of the country because real education has been lacking.

There are numerous other cultural, political, religious and social reasons for the self perpetuating injustice, but all the factors contribute to the same result.

In order to break this cycle of ignorance, racism, fear, hate and fascist diatribe, people must be self motivated to learn truth. Of course reasoning with people who call themselves 'Christian' while they simultaneously advocate bombing innocent civilians, violating international law, ignoring numerous international treaties and the very premises of our own Constitution, is nearly impossible. These folks continue to live in denial of reality. They will even vote repeatedly for an alcoholic pre-dementia silver spoon corporatist who lies constantly, has failed at everything he has ever done in his life, and who consistently enacts laws and advocates policies which are directly opposed to the best interests of these very same citizens.

Hell, these people are so gullible, they will even believe that 100 story buildings can collapse like a pancake at the speed of gravity and when they look at the pile of rubble, it never occurs to them that there are no piles of pancakes - it was mostly turned to dust.... violating a basic law of physics ... and when trying to reason with these folks, offering the idea that maybe there were explosive there too .... well, lets just say they tend to get defensive and mad.

By the way, did you learn, before you dropped out of grammar school, that the first letter in a sentence and the first letters of a person's first and last name should be capitalized? Matter of fact they like it so well that they recite it word for word in here right down to facts and statistics.
