The fastest in the UK is in fact 24 meg which is £24 a month and you will see by going to www.bethere.co.uk

As for the world, I believe it is in Hong Kong as you say, but I'm not sure of the speed

Hong Kong has the fastest Internet connection in the world, Roadrunner is just the fastest USA connection.. if that. Fastest in UK is only 10MB right now.

1 Gigabit isn't really broadband - it's effectively a local area connection. The fastest broadband (ADSL) I've seen is 16 megabits.

I would disreguard those speed tests as they are inaccurate, do it several times and take an average. but what are you paying your ISP for, what type of speeds? If your running ADSL you are using copper cable, any fault on that telephone line will slow you down, it may be ok for voice but not high speed data, see if you can get a bit error rate test run from your PC to you ISP, that will prove your copper cable network, any faults and fixing them is another problem. Also your supposed to be in a 7Km radius of a telephone exchange, for ADSL to run at it's peak.
