He's not one of my favorites, but he's definitely a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He's undoubtedly the best leadoff hitter in history, and his numbers are amazing - an OBP over .400, almost 2,300 runs, and over 2,000 walks. I love the fact that he walked more than he struck out, and that he was also a power threat at the top of the order. He also had success in the playoffs, winning a couple of World Series and putting up nice numbers.
My personal top 5 doesn't include Henderson, but that's not a slight against him:
1) Babe Ruth
2) Ty Cobb
3) Ted Williams
4) Lou Gehrig
5) Willie Mays
Barry Bonds would be on that list if not for the steroids issue.

I think that Rickey should get without a doubt. He set the standard for most lead-off hitters of today. The only person even close to his base running ability is Lou Brock, and we all know that before Rickey Brock was the man. Not only was Henderson a runner but he could hit for power as well. If I'm not mistaken he is one of the top lead-off home run hitters of all time. I wouldn't say he is in the top 5 all time though.
Bonus:
My all time top 5
1. Mickey Mantle
2. Ty Cobb
3. Babe Ruth
4. Willie Mays
5. Shoeless Joe Jackson

If you could split Rickey up, you'd have several hall of famers...
the greatest base stealer of all time, the greatest lead-off batter of all time.
His career OBP was over .400.
He scored more runs (2,295) than any other player in history, with Ty Cobb second at 2,246.
Henderson ranks 20th in career hits, with 3,055.
He's second all time to Barry Bonds in drawing the most walks (2,190, Bonds has 2,426... Babe Ruth and Ted Williams are the only other players over 2,000).
At 1,406, Henderson is almost FIVE HUNDRED stolen bases ahead of the second place Lou Brock (938).
Henderson is also 4th all time in games played, with 3,081... only eight players have played in 3,000 or more games.
A ten-time all star who also won an MVP award.
Absolutely a first ballot hall of famer. Should be a unanimous selection, but won't be.

Rickey Henderson is the all-time best player in the stolen base category (and I'm not just talking about the stat itself- if I could have one player steal a crucial base in his prime, it would be Henderson). That is what should make him a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer
