Ok I am not very clued up on the ipods. I am getting my daughter one for xmas and have heard that with all ipods you have to download the music from the manufacture. Ie Apple nano so i would have to download from the apple site? This then becomes a very expensive way of getting music. can anyone tell me if there are free music download sites that I will be able to get music for the ipod I choose?

I have only bought a song once from the iTunes music store because it is a rip-off to buy songs for $0.99 a piece. You could download the software sharing program called Limewire. This is what I use to put songs on my iPod Nano. To get Limewire just go to http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml. Download the free version and once you have it you can download as many songs as you want.

Another way to put songs on your iPod is to take your own CD's and upload the songs from the CD to the iPod.

There are many other sharing programs such as:
http://bearshare.com/
&
http://bitcomet.com/

There are also programs where you pay a few dollars per month and you can have a certain amount of songs per month or even unlimited songs per month.

It doesn't all have to be bought. You need to go to Itunes.com and download itunes. it is the only way to get the music onto the ipod. but music that you already own can be converted or put onto itunes. the itunes converts most music, and it will ask you if you want it to import any music already on the computer to itunes. it gets a little confusing how to get around some of the blocks, but it is possible. Limewire is a great free music website, but like i said any cds that you already own can be imported to itunes. if you have anymore questions just ask me.

you will need itunes for any ipod. The only free downloads you can get is illegal like limewire. Or you could free songs off a illegal sight and then get an ipod converter. However you can get people to send you itune songs. I have been told that if you have an apple mac computer/laptop you can download itunes for free if you have a MAC computer/laptop
Hope this helps

You don't have to download the music from that website, you can buy music from iTunes but you can just use any other music files you have or will have on your computer, files can be created from music cd's also, it doesn't matter where you get the music, it will all work on an ipod unless it needs to connect the internet for licences(rare).

you don't have to get all themusic from itunes you can import music you already have (ex: cds) into itunes and you can download from other sites; a free legal site is bearshare watchout though it has spyware
you can get rid of most but not all spyware elements other than that you have to pay to download music

Nah, that's complete rubbish.
You install the software onto your pc.and then you can store all your CDs on the iTunes software, which can be put onto an iPod.
