The Intel Core 2 processors beat all the AMD processors in benchmark tests. Go with the Core 2 and you'll be happy.

The Core 2 Extreme is the fastest processor out in the world right now, as many many benchmarks have shown, so that does make it simple doesn't it. As for what the sponge said, both are 64 bit capable, but that only applies if you have a 64 bit system. The memory is an issue here since the FX60 uses slower DDR memory than the DDR2 the Core 2 Extreme uses.

EDIT: Yes the Core 2 Extreme is more, but he asked which is better. The Core 2 Duo E6600 is cheaper than the FX60, but still outperforms it.

I would use the AMD Athlon64 FX-60 because it has better color depth and is just as fast if not faster than the X6800. Anything with 64bit color depth is the ****. To bad i dont have one. Honestly they are both the ****. Im not sure about the color depth on the X6800 but check it out im sure the differences are marginal. Good luck.

Oh and all that RAM nonsense im sure u are already aware of and mind u the companies are to but im not sure that was the answer to your question. Peace!

Intel is the best. Listen, the best thing to consider is going to each website, AMD and Intel and doing some comparision shopping for the different specs of each processor. Remember though it is not just the processor you need to consider but the RAM, and the video card too. Good luck and have fun building your gaming machine.

With IE7s tabbed browsing comparision shopping just got a whole lot easier, open up AMD in one tab and Intel in the other and then just click back and forth between two. I love IE7!!

Isn't the Core 2 extreme also more expensive? From my personal experience, if you want performance, overall performance, go with a pre-built machine manufacturer like Dell.

In general cause they have a limited warranty, they often have bundles, and all the Dell computers i've had, have run without any glitches.

Naturally you can also build a great box as well, but there is more room for error, and less room to return stuff!
