For something not gory, not gross, your looking for creepy things.
Halloween maybe, but it's more of a slasher than anything else. Psycho maybe?
By the way, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is not based on true story, the "true story" was extremely miconstrued for the movie. FYI Lensam.

The Ring
IT
The Others was also pretty scary, and I like "Sometimes They Come Back", but that's a pretty old one.

I found What Lies Beneath really quite scary. It's not gross, it's just got lots of suspense. I was very stressed by the end of the movie. Lots of waiting while people walk or are in danger or as water rises etc. It was intense.

The Ring freaked me out, and the sequel wasn't bad.
This is a Love or Hate movie, but Blair Witch scared the crap out of me because I was with an outdoorsy dude at the time I saw it and we went camping two weeks later.
You can't beat the Exorcist.

The Ring was freaking horrifying.
So was Hellraiser - an early one.
Blair Witch was terrifying, then made us crack up towards the end.
The Silence of The Lambs is a masterpiece of terror.
An Inconvenient Truth is the most spine chilling of all.....

I'm a scary movie freak and none ever scared me . Try the new and old version of the omen. My boyfriend and I saw it and we couldn't sleep for weeks.
