I need to know if dry ice can be used for a pumpkin so it can have the effect of smoke coming out its ears?

No real safety procedures I think can of other than don't drop the ice in the water, pour the water on the ice AND be sure to wear gloves when handling the ice because it can cause burns.

Dry ice would work, yes. But for a short amount of time. (maybe about 30 minutes before you need more ice) If your pumpkin is going to be fairly close to an electrical outlet, I would suggest a water humidifier instead. It can be used not only for the pumpkin but also indoors as well to clear the air. (I stepped next to one not knowing what it was at the mall and it almost instantly cleared my sinuses which were clogged from a bad cold. Don't ask, husband dragged me out on our anniversary) A lot come with pretty little removable decorations.

And to make sure that the smoke only comes out of the ears, I would suggest taping cling wrap over the other holes.

Yes it can be used, get a bowl or cup and put it inside the pumpkin insert dry ice into bowl or cup and add a *small* amount of water. The water causes the dry ice to smoke. Also do not handle the dry ice with bare hands it can cause burns when held for more than a few seconds.Use a kitchen utensil to handle the dry ice. I have done this for the past few halloweens. The local publix sells dry ice.

Ice is a great idea, no safety problems that I can think of, as long as the top stays on, just don't let a child touch the ice

small glass of water in the pumpkin, drop in the dry ice, small pieces. no problem
